Are Chainsaw Weapons cliché?
Hi,
I'm thinking about writing a story and was wondering if a chainsaw-like, or chainsaw-esque, weapon would be cliché.
I just wanted to incorporate something that would belie the protagonist's innocence and I couldn't think of anything much cooler/more vicious, but every time I imagine the end product, I am forced to rethink it; images of Gears of War and Warhammer 40K flooding my head.
As two of my favorite universes, they are partially responsible for some of my inspiration, but I just don't want it to seem like I am lifting ideas, as many franchises use chainsaw-ish things.
I really just want to know:
If you were reading something, and a mechanized sawing object was used as a preliminary weapon, would you immediately think it was cliché?
Thanks in advance,
IITHOUSANDII
Sorry if it was misleading.
I didn't mean "a chainsaw", literally, as a weapon.
Simply something like a medieval weapon with motorized, serated teeth.
I have more of a problem with the chainsaw being so impractical as a weapon more so than a cliche. It's loud, heavy, and rendered useless once the gas runs out.
